These are the terms for using Chapterr, the book club service at chapterr.io and app.chapterr.io. We’ve kept them short and plain. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use Chapterr.
1. A beta service
Chapterr is in beta. That means we’re still building it: features will change, some will be added and some removed, and from time to time the service may be unavailable or behave unexpectedly. We work to keep your data safe and the service up, and we recommend you keep your own copy of anything important (you can download your data at any time from Settings).
2. Your account
You need an account to use Chapterr. You must be at least 13 years old, give us a working email address, and keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens under your account; if you think someone else has access to it, change your password (which signs out every device) and tell us.
3. Price
Chapterr is free during beta, for every club and every feature, with no card required.
After beta, each club costs $1 per month, paid by the person who created the club (the owner). Members never pay. One price per club, however many members it has.
We will give at least 30 days’ notice by email before billing starts, together with the exact terms for payment, cancellation and what happens to clubs that are not renewed. Nobody will be charged without agreeing to those terms first.
4. Acceptable use
Chapterr is for reading together. Please don’t use it to:
- harass, threaten or abuse anyone, or post content that is unlawful, hateful or sexually explicit;
- share material you don’t have the right to share, including pirated books;
- send spam, run bots, scrape the service, or try to get around rate limits or access controls;
- attempt to access accounts, clubs or data that aren’t yours;
- interfere with the service or other people’s use of it.
Club owners and admins may remove members from their clubs and set their own house rules, as long as those rules are consistent with these terms.
5. Your content stays yours
Everything you add to Chapterr, including reviews, quotations, notes, messages, lists and photos, belongs to you (or to whoever holds the rights in it). You give us only the permission we need to store it, show it to the people you’ve chosen to share it with, and operate the service. We don’t claim ownership, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it to train models.
You’re responsible for making sure you have the right to share what you share. Short quotations from books for the purpose of discussion are the kind of thing Chapterr is for.
6. Privacy
Our privacy notice explains what we store and why. It is part of these terms.
7. No warranty
Chapterr is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which during beta is nothing.
8. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. A club owner can delete a club, which removes it for all members. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we may discontinue the service; if we do, we’ll give you reasonable notice and a way to download your data.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Chapterr develops. For material changes we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
